FAQ

Who is eligible to participate?

Track & Field is open to boys & girls in grades K-8 who are enrolled at St. John’s Academy/CCD.

Most of the meets have the standard array of running events (100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m) as well as relays and shorter “fun runs” for the K-2 group. Field events include javelin, shotput and long jump. Medals are awarded to the top finishers in each event, which we present in a nice post season medal ceremony.

Yes! We are aware that some of the athletes also play CYO spring volleyball with us. While we can’t guarantee there will never be an overlap, we will work to schedule each sport’s activities around each other.

The Track & Field season starts in mid-late March and runs into June. Practices will be held during the week at Bergen Catholic, and there are several competitive meets each season held on weekends.

Yes. Meets are held at other schools within the archdiocese. While we encourage everyone to participate in the meets, you may choose which ones you would like to attend.

Important!

K-2 Coaches

Last season we opened up to K-2 kids and got a great response. However, to pull this off again we need a primary volunteer head coach and a solid group of a few assistants. No major Track & Field experience is required to coach or assist. Please specify on your registration form how you can help so we can determine if we are able to field a K-2 group.

St. John’s Meet

We have been asked by CYO to host a Bergen County meet this season. This would help add more meets to the calendar and also give us a break from the Hudson/Union commutes we usually have to take for many of the other meets. If we were to do this, our meet would most likey be on May 31 and we would team up with OLM in Park Ridge to share the burden, but would still need a good amount of St. John’s volunteers to pull it off. This would mean things like organizing kids at starting lines, measuring long jumps, selling concessions etc. Not rocket science but just some time spent taking a shift on the field.

Please specify on your registration form if/how you can help with this meet so we can determine if we are able to take it on.
