The Saint John’s Academy highly regarded math program is aligned with the Archdiocese of Newark curriculum mapping. The foundation of SJA’s math curriculum and instruction is the mastering of computational skills while developing vital critical thinking and problem-solving strategies.

At SJA, our math teachers reach all students through various instructional approaches, included but not limited to:

  • Whole class instruction
  • Collaborative learning
  • Learning center environments
  • Small group instruction
  • One-on-one instruction

Assessments are varied and include the Map Assessments, traditional assessments (both formative and summative), and performance tasks that focus on higher order thinking. The varied assessments create a challenging, engaging mathematics program that allows the teacher to make adjustments to instructional methods in order to individualize instruction. Students have the opportunity to participate in Algebra at the eighth-grade level.
