Declan Henry attended St. John’s Academy from Pre-K 3 through his graduation in 2016. While at SJA, he played CYO basketball and recreation baseball. Declan became an altar server at the end of 3rd grade and a member of the St. John’s Youth Group in 8th grade. He performed in The Little Mermaid and had a lead role in Fame.
Declan moved onto St. Joseph Regional High School, a student in the Honors Program, where he ran Cross Country and played Tennis. He was very involved in the Performing Arts Program playing bass in the school band and singing in the chorus for a variety of events including the annual Christmas Concert and Cabaret Knight. Declan participated in five musicals earning lead roles his senior year as Sipos in She Loves Me and Uncle Fester in The Addams Family.
He was a cub scout in Pack 91 while at SJA and bridged over to Troop 109 in Hillsdale in 5th grade where he rose to the rank of Eagle in 2019. Declan’s Eagle Project consisted of collecting, packaging and delivering toiletries, socks, underwear and umbrellas to Covenant House NJ and Hoboken Shelter. He was also very involved in Campus Ministry at St. Joe’s and spent two summer weeks volunteering with camps for the developmentally disabled at the Marist Brothers Center.
Declan was inducted into the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honors Society and received the Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award for social justice during his Junior year. At the end of his Senior Year, Declan was presented with the Campus Ministry award, the Performing Arts award and the Todd M. Smith Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence and citizenship.
Declan will continue his education at Providence College where he plans to study Political Science and Spanish and hopes to attend law school after graduation.
