Upper Level (6-8) - St. John's Academy

Upper Level (6-8)

Often, our society has programmed us to believe that the upper level (grades 6-8) years are a time for students to just “get through” or “endure”. At SJA, we disagree with this thought process.

Our Upper level program is a supportive, stimulating learning environment where students are encouraged to come to the front of the class, sing on stage, lead the Mass readings, and act as role models to our younger students.

We foster self confidence that leads our students to stand out in the crowd — happy to be themselves in high school and beyond. Students emerge as leaders and scholars, citizens, and activists that thrive in this “just right” environment that allows them to flourish.

Core Curriculum

Our carefully planned, rigorous curriculum includes:

  • English/Language Arts
  • Mathematics (including advanced course offerings)
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Visual and Performing Arts (drama for grade 8)
  • Physical Education
  • Health
  • World Language

The curriculum follows a well planned scope and sequence that cultivates both strong academic skills and independent study habits.

Students in grades 6-8 have access regular access to Chromebooks. In the classrooms, interactive whiteboards and wireless connectivity expose students to numerous platforms to enhance their learning experience.

Growth Opportunities

Students participate in a variety of opportunities through clubs, organization and enrichment activities that build interpersonal and leadership skills. Sixth through eighth graders participate in school dances and other social gatherings often sponsored by the SJA Student Council. A myriad of service projects encourage students to think deeply about others by giving their time and talents to those in need.
